Mark 11:13,14 And seeing a fig tree afar off having leaves, he came, if haply he might find any thing thereon: and when he came to it, he found nothing but leaves; for the time of figs was not yet. And Yahushua answered and said unto it, No man eat fruit of thee hereafter for ever. And his disciples heard it.
I am a nature lover so when I read this narration in my initial days of Bible reading I was impressed with the power Yahushua showed but at the same time I was confused as to why Yahushua harmed a tree just because He was hungry and there was no fruit on it? It was later in my Bible study I realized the great importance of this incident.
The fig fruits are a delicacy, they are like the mango fruit in India. The fig has many variety and kinds some much sweeter and tender than the other. What is interesting is even the leaves of the fig tree have so many varieties at time one tree can have leaves of different shapes. In Matthew 24 and Mark 13 Yahushua indicates about the fig trees and its time of bearing. The leaves of this tree start to open up and deepen in color at the time of it bearing fruit. In both of reference Yahushua links the fig tree to judgment day. His coming back after the days of tribulation (this is the time where Lucifer / the dragon is released from the pit/Hell and is allowed to have a free hand over the people this period lasts just of a few days) with His Angels to judge.
In the parable of the fig tree, mankind is symbolized as a fig tree that goes through hard times (testing) so as bear good fruit and when the time comes the Lord will judge us for the fruits we bear. If we bear good fruits we will be rewarded accordingly in Heaven.
In today’s message you and I as individuals symbolize the fig tree which showed by its leaves that it was fruitful but when Yahushua approached it He was disappointed to see no fruit on it. Yahushua cursed the tree to show us how we would be treated when we show the world we are Men and Women of God but have not Fruit of the Holy Spirit in us.
Lord says either be cold or be warm but if we are lukewarm He would spit us out of His mouth (curse us). If we are not born-again from the inside let us not put a godly image on the outside to misled and destroy others. Let our change be from inside and not from the outside.
Being Christian is not about doing good being Christian is about having the Fruits of the Holy Spirit and when we have the Fruits of the Holy Spirit then good things automatically come from us.
I tell people bluntly it is better to die as a unbeliever by rejecting Yahushua Mashiach/ Christ that way we will pay for our sins but when we accept Yahushua Mashiach/ Christ as our savior and do not have Him in us (that is be Fruitful) then we will not be punished for our sins (since our sins are forgiven) but will be punished for rejecting His Word and His Spirit, this punishment is more terrible. It is His Word and His Spirit that helps us grow Fruits.
Lord Yahushua You became man and as man You showed us how to be Fruitful. Lord we pray we realize unless we are not Christians inside we cannot be Christians outside. Lord let us learn to surrender to the Holy Spirit who is our Husbandman to grow Fruits in us. Holy Spirit, You work in us, open the Word unto us and mold us from inside, make us rich with your Fruits…
This prayer we make in Yahushua’ Name, Amen.
12 And on the morrow, when they were come from Bethany, he was hungry:
13 And seeing a fig tree afar off having leaves, he came, if haply he might find any thing thereon: and when he came to it, he found nothing but leaves; for the time of figs was not yet.
14 And Yahushua answered and said unto it, No man eat fruit of thee hereafter for ever. And his disciples heard it.
19 And when even was come, he went out of the city.
20 And in the morning, as they passed by, they saw the fig tree dried up from the roots.
21 And Peter calling to remembrance saith unto him, Master, behold, the fig tree which thou cursedst is withered away.
19 And when he saw a fig tree in the way, he came to it, and found nothing thereon, but leaves only, and said unto it, Let no fruit grow on thee henceforward for ever. And presently the fig tree withered away.
20 And when the disciples saw it, they marvelled, saying, How soon is the fig tree withered away!
21 Yahushua answered and said unto them, Verily I say unto you, If ye have faith, and doubt not, ye shall not only do this which is done to the fig tree, but also if ye shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; it shall be done.
22 And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive.
5 I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.
6 He spake also this parable; A certain man had a fig tree planted in his vineyard; and he came and sought fruit thereon, and found none.
7 Then said he unto the dresser of his vineyard, Behold, these three years I come seeking fruit on this fig tree, and find none: cut it down; why cumbereth it the ground?
8 And he answering said unto him, Lord, let it alone this year also, till I shall dig about it, and dung it:
9 And if it bear fruit, well: and if not, then after that thou shalt cut it down.
29 Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken:
30 And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.
31 And he shall send his angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.
32 Now learn a parable of the fig tree; When his branch is yet tender, and putteth forth leaves, ye know that summer is nigh:
33 So likewise ye, when ye shall see all these things, know that it is near, even at the doors.
34 Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled.
35 Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.
Revelation 3:16 – So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth.
