How Many Christian Denominations Are There?

How Many Christian Denominations Are There? It is said to be somewhere around 40,000. I can assure you that the figure is at least 39,000 and that figure is in no way inflated. Think about that. Each is denomination is distinct from other denominations, churches and traditions. In other words they all believe that their Practices of the Christian Religion is the right way. They all believe that they are the way. The Bible warns that “false teachings of Yeshua” would come, denying Yeshua’s true message. Has this occurred? Will it occur in the future? Why are billions who call themselves “Believers” unaware of what Yeshua really taught? As Believers, we need to be sure that we are worshiping the true Mashiach (Messiah)! Folks, it is absolutely vital that WE learn the full Truth of the ways of YHWH. It is vital that we lay down Mans Words and Teachings and embrace the Truth that is in YHWH’s Word. Most Truly want to worship the God of creation. You want to honor Yeshua and serve Him in the way He says. But you may have been seriously misled by others, who have taught you wrongly how to seek and serve YHWH of the Bible. Millions of sincere People simply do not realize that they are believing and practicing ideas and traditions that are in total contradiction to what Yeshua the son of YHWH taught and practiced. Many reading this are in that same condition. They have believed as Man said and have ignored the whole truth that is laid out in YHWH’s Word. I ask YOU where do you fall? The Bible itself—if you will let the Bible interpret the Bible—makes this very clear. Are you, personally, willing to let the Bible tell you about the condition of this world—even the religious condition of many who claim to follow Yeshua. YHWH is at the very beginning of the Book. Yeshua is at the very beginning: “But I fear, lest somehow, as the serpent deceived Eve by his craftiness, so your minds may be corrupted from the simplicity that is in the truth. For if he who comes preaches another Yeshua whom we have not preached, or if you receive a different spirit which you have not received, or a different gospel which you have not accepted—you may well put up with it” (2 Corinthians 11:3–4). Today, there are all kinds of approaches to “The Bible YHWH’s Holy Word” ranging all the way from “New Age” thinking, to Roman Catholicism, to hyper-emotional “charismatic” groups. Many want to start in the Middle of the book and forget the first part. Many are content with Man’s changes to YHWH’s forever Commands and choose to toss out what they do not like. Yea, thats right they choose what to leave in and what to leave out. Folks it is NOT their choice and neither is it yours. Yeshua spoke of this situation when He rebuked the Pharisees for their emphasis on human tradition as opposed to the law of YHWH. Describing how their tradition caused them not to honor their father and mother as God commanded, Yeshua said: “thus you have made the commandment of God of no effect by your tradition. Hypocrites! Well did Isaiah prophecy about you, saying: ‘These people draw near to Me with their mouth, and honor Me with their lips, but their heart is far from Me. And in vain they worship Me, teaching as doctrines the commandments of men'” (Matthew 15:6–9). My hope and prayer is that many will truly get this.

  1. NEW TESTAMENT DENOMINATIONS? BY STEVE FINNELL

Are denominations acceptable under the new covenant? There were no denominations of the church of Christ that were acceptable to the Lord for the first one hundred years of the church. Why do men believe that God finds the hundreds, if not thousands, of the contemporary so-called churches of Christ to be pleasing to God? Did Jesus die for a divided church?

    FIRST CENTURY DENOMINATIONS

The First Church of Knowing Only The Baptism of John: Acts 19:1-7 ……2 He said to them, “Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?” And they said to him, “No, we have not even heard whether there is a Holy Spirit.” 3 And he said, “Into what then were baptized?” And they said, “Into John’s baptism.” 4 Paul said, “John baptized with the baptism of repentance, telling the people to believe in Him who was coming after him, that is, in Jesus.” 5 When they heard this they baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus…….

When these twelve men heard the truth and they repented of their false misunderstanding. They canceled their membership in “The First Church of Knowing Only the Baptism of John”.

These twelve men realized that John’s baptism was not a baptism into Christ. (Galatians 3:27 For all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ.)

These twelve men understood that they could not receive the Holy Spirit unless the received the water baptism of the new covenant. (Acts 2:38 Peter said to them, “Repent, and each of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.)

You will notice, not one of the twelve told the apostle Paul that they did not need Christians baptism, because the thief of the cross was not baptized and he was in paradise with Jesus. They understood that they were living under the new covenant.

Repentance is required for those living in error. It was mandatory for the twelve and it is necessary for those involved in the errors of modern- day denominationalism.

The Resurrection Is Over Christian Church: 1 Timothy 2:17-18 and their talk will spread like gangrene. Among them are Hymenaeus and Philetus, 18 men who have gone astray from the truth saying that the resurrection has already taken place, and they upset the faith of some.

Denominations are established because they deviate from the truth. It was true in the first century and it is true today.

The Jerusalem Judaizers for Christ: Galatians 2:11-21 But when Cephas came to Antioch, I opposed him to his face, because he stood condemned. 12 For prior to the coming of certain men from James, he used to eat with the Gentiles; but when they came, he began to withdraw and hold himself aloof, fearing the party of the circumcision, 13 The rest of the Jews joined him in hypocrisy, the result that even Barnabas was carried away by their hypocrisy. 14 But when I saw that were not straightforward about the truth of the gospel, I said to Cephas in the presence of all, “If you, being a Jew, live like the Gentiles and not like the Jews, how is it that you compel the Gentiles to live like Jews…………

The apostle Paul confronted the apostle Peter because he was practicing the denominational doctrines of The Jerusalem Judaizers for Christ. Peter was perverting the truth of the gospel. Peter needed to repent. The apostle Paul did not say, it does not matter what doctrine you teach and practice as long as you are sincere.

Men, today, who are preaching doctrines different from Biblical teaching, need to repent. There was only one church established on the Day of Pentecost. There was only one way preached, telling men how to be saved.

WHAT MUST I DO TO BE SAVED?
    1. FAITH: John 3:16
    2. REPENTANCE: Acts 2:38, Acts 3:19
    3. CONFESSION: Romans 10:9-10, Acts 8:37
    4. WATER BAPTISM: Acts 2:38, Mark 16:16, 1 Peter 3:21, Galatians 3:27.

    JESUS PRAYED FOR UNITY

John 17:20-21″I do not ask on behalf of these alone, but for those also who believe in Me through their word; 21 that they may all be one; even as You Father, are in Me and I in You, that they also may be in Us, so that the world may believe that You sent Me.

Can there be unity when different denominations teach various ways to become saved?

  2. DENOMINATIONAL ECUMENISM? BY STEVE FINNELL

The contemporary movement formed to encourage cooperation between those denominations that believe Jesus is the Christ is the “Ecumenical Assembly”? Regardless of doctrinal differences those with the ecumenical mindset join together to feed and clothe the poor, gather together for preaching God’s word, study God’s word, and various other joint religious activities. Is that consistent with God’s plan? Is believing that Jesus is the Christ the only essential doctrine of Christianity? I do not believe so.

Can you imagine the apostle Paul being involved in an “Ecumenical Assembly” with the Church of Judaizers, the Church of The Resurrection Is Past, or the Church of Knowing Only the Baptism of John?

    1. The Church of Judaizers: Acts 15:1-5 And certain men came down from Judea and taught the brethren, “Unless you are circumcised according to the custom of Moses you cannot be saved.”………5 But some of the sect of the Pharisees who believe rose, saying, “It was necessary to circumcise them, and to command them to keep the law of Moses.”(NKJV)

The Judaizers believed that Jesus was the Christ. The apostle Paul did not join in joint efforts with them to feed and clothe the poor. Paul did not join in preaching the gospel, church revivals nor Bible studies with them. What Paul did, do, was condemn their doctrine, point out their eternal abode. Galatians 5:4 You have become estranged from Christ, you who attempt to be justified by law; you have fallen from grace.(NKJV)

Simply believing that Jesus is the Christ does not qualify anyone as a coworker in Christ.

    2. Church of The Resurrection is Past: 2 Timothy 2:17-18 And their message will spread like cancer. Hymenaeus and Philetus are of this sort, 18 who have strayed concerning the truth, saying that the resurrection is already past; and they overthrow the faith of some.(NKJV)

The apostle Paul did not encourage the followers of Jesus to join in ecumenical endeavors with the Church of of the Resurrection is Past, he said the opposite. 2 Timothy 2:16 But shun profane and vain babblings…(NLKV)

Note: Hymenaeus and Philetus strayed from the truth. The did believe that Jesus was the Christ.

    3. Church of Knowing Only the Baptism of John: Acts 18:24-26 Apollos…..25 This man had been instructed in the way of the Lord; and being fervent in spirit, he spoke and taught accurately the things of the Lord, though he knew only the baptism of John. 26 So he began to speak boldly in the synagogue. When Aquila and Priscilla head him , they took him aside and explained to him the way of God more accurately.(NKJV)

Apollos was not permitted to continue preaching false doctrine, he was taught the truth. Simply believing that Jesus is the Christ is not good enough.

The apostle Paul came upon some of the men Apollos had taught incorrectly. And taught them the truth. They were baptized into Christ. John’s baptism was no longer valid. (Acts 19:1-5)

The apostle Paul did not engage with ecumenical activities with the Church of Knowing Only the Baptism of John until they were taught and believed the true gospel plan of salvation.

Why do believers in Christ join “Ecumenical Assemblies” with denominations that hold various and sundry doctrines?

Ecumenical Assemblies include those who pray to the Virgin Mary, those who deny that immersion in water is essential to salvation, those who believe once saved always saved, those who believe only a select few have been individually selected for salvation, those who believe there are many ways to heaven other than Jesus.

Should the Lord’s Church participate in feeding and clothing the poor, joint Bible studies, and other religious activities with those who teach doctrine contrary to the apostles doctrine?

The apostle Paul was not an advocate for “Ecumenical Assemblies”. Romans 16:16-17…..The churches of Christ greet you. 17 Now I urge you, brethren, note those who cause divisions and offenses, contrary to the doctrine which you learned and avoid them.(NKJV)

Simply believing that Jesus is the Christ is not enough, Satan and his demons believe that.
